The Challenge
Local authorities have to comply with the Control of Asbestos Regulations 2012, preceding with commencing any refurbishment to public properties, the asbestos needs to be correctly managed and the appropriate people informed.

The Project
MSS were appointed, by a local authority, to remove the asbestos from the changing rooms of playing fields. 140m² of ceiling needed to be removed to clear the void above. A new suspended ceiling then needed to be reinstated. The asbestos removal and ceiling reinstatement needed to be completed within six days to allow the changing rooms to be used for matches the following weekend. Heavy snow fell during this week, but the staff were appropriately prepared and the project was not affected.

Working in Partnership
By working closely with the client from the onset of the project, we helped to formulate an effective methodology.

Communication
Our challenges are seldom limited to the technical. Good communication was key to the success of the project. We liaised with the caretaker and sports club officials, prior to removal works, to update them on the progress as they were having to train at other sites. Our careful planning and experience allowed us to complete this job safely and within the allocated time frame. Thus, ensuring the client was pleased with the result.
