Pioneering innovation leads to Zero to Landfill operation

The onsite effluent plant takes used water from the mills, which is filtered to produce a cake of pressed material and solids. Once removed the clean water can be safely disposed of. However chlorides introduced in the waste water meant the only destination for the cake was landfill.
The new process enables the reduction in the level of chlorides in the filter cake which now means it can be blended into the mix the Sinter Plant produces for the blast furnaces.
NRW (Natural Resource Wales) were engaged by TATA and have agreed the process, officially making TATA Llanwern a zero landfill site.
