MSS Group Appoints New Bid Manager to Drive Growth
MSS Group welcomes Thomas Jenkins as Bid Manager
Statutory national targets for the reduction of greenhouse gas emissions in response to the threat of climate change imply that very significant improvements need to be made in the energy efficiency of the UK’s building stock, including nearly all its 27 million domestic buildings. The EU objective is to achieve Net Zero Energy Buildings throughout the EU. The UK Government has set a Net Zero target of 2050 for all sectors, including housing. PAS 2035:2019 supports work towards those objectives by promoting and defining technically robust and responsible whole building domestic retrofit work, a framework within which MSS provides "retrofit services".
Our Trustmark accredited Retrofit Assessors carry out Domestic Retrofit Assessments in-line with the PAS2035:2019 specification. We also provide stand alone Energy Performance Certificates (EPC’s) which provide a summary of the current and potential energy usage.
LiDAR (Laser Imaging, Detection & Ranging), also known as 3D scanning is used by our teams to make high resolution 3D models of domestic properties. These can be used by Retrofit Designers to revisit a property virtually and check measurements, consider how installations will impact the internal and external space, and consult with clients and installers without needing to revisit the property in person.
As part of our Retrofit service offering, we provide Air Tightness Testing (ATT), undertaken by Level 1 qualified testers. The system pressurises the building and allows us to measure the amount of air leaking from the building, and the location of those leaks.

Darren Phelan, MSS Groups Retrofit lead, contends that the key to achieving our 2050 net zero objectives lies in providing appropriate retrofit solutions.
One of our retrofit teams has been out on site in Caerau, Maesteg this summer supporting Bridgend County Borough Council with the Caerau Wall Insulation Scheme.
