High Pressure Steam Mains – Asbestos Removal & Thermal Lagging Reinstatement

This project saw the removal of sectional thermal insulation approx. 40m in length from a section of the 11 bar high pressure steam main, followed by repairs and re-lagging.
The biggest challenge on this project was heat - not caused by the pipe, which had been isolated, but because we undertook the work during a summer heatwave. Inside the asbestos enclosures temperatures were exceeding safe levels, requiring the Contract Manager to implement a regime of regular breaks and temperature monitoring.
Once the pipe was successfully stripped, FES made their repairs before our Thermal Insulation team carried our re-lagging works ensuring a seamless service in what became a difficult environment.
