Acid Neutralisation Plant

Reducing environmental impact of effluent process

Service Type

Water Treatment

Details

Acorn originally introduced a neutralization process at Llanwern in 2005 as part of their effluent process as a way of reducing its environmental impact and to reduce waste costs. Prior to that time, all neutralized press waste was disposed into landfill at hazardous waste.

During the metal pickling process, whereby Hydrochloric Acid is used the effluent plant we designed and manage deals with run-off "pickle liquor" from the pickling-line and run-off water from the scrubber system. Both are acidic but once neutralised can be re-used in the sinter plant.

This complex process has been signed-off by NRW and we continue to operate and maintain the system 365 days a year using 5 operators.
